“Our lives are not our own. We are bound to others, past and present, and by each crime and every kindness, we birth our future.” ― David Mitchell, Cloud Atlas
I do think about life, as many others do, and i do think about what is the purpose of life…. a question millions raise in their hearts or on global echoes, a question we ask ourselves at least once in a lifetime or on many occasions.. People rich and poor, talented and dull, scientists and philosophers, have pondered on it, thought of it, lived and died in search of it.. Makes me wonder, there must be something important in it, otherwise, why the fuss..? As much as i thought about it, it came to me, that if the answer can’t be found, is there another way to look at it..? The answer, Yes, there are many ways one can look at this question.. One such way is what we are going to discuss about here.. I came across a fine book by David Mitchell, Cloud Atlas was not just pure, it was very insightful, (Although the movie really did offer a different view 🙂 ) , i realized what we really should be asking is not “What is the purpose of life?” but rather, “What is OUR our purpose in Life? ” and not just “in Life” , but more specifically, “Our Lives”. We treat Life as a separate entity when we raise the question as if it has an existence of its own , when we ourselves are a massive part of it. Life is but the result of what we think and act, what we choose to do or don’t, what we decide and what we stick by. Its a direct result of our existence. So what our purpose is, directly reflects to what is the purpose for our lives.
As i read on the Cloud Atlas gave me an amazing outlook to what i thought of my life, We are born out of the grace of almighty, and then we move on to the next world, and by his grace we might come back again, so does everything in nature , as a part of nature’s cycle of existence, beings are born, they live, make a difference and then pass on to merge with nature again, as they merge with nature, the energy they contain merges with the energy of the earth, when they are reborn, they are born with the amount of energy they passed on with. This can be lesser or greater then the amount of energy we were born with, this energy is light, the part of god we bring to this earth, and the part we take with us. During a lifetime of an individual, we nurture this energy, we choose to do good or bad, This good or bad is not the ones that come as a part of a social vote of being good or bad by a court of law, This good or bad is the state defined by nature herself, the universal good or bad that nature has defined for all. With every act of doing good, the energy we contain in ourselves grow and nurture, and with every deed and thought of bad diminishes this energy within us, in the span of our lives we change for the better or worse according to the energy we contain at the point in time. So in a way, when we do or think of good, we change for being a better being of existence and when we do bad we change otherwise. That is what i believe is the dynamics of nature, So when we are permitted to be born again, we are either born as a better human being or worse than the last one. There is a reason why despite the environment we grow in, children do have a tendency to start out good or bad when they start, but eventually do end up molding into what the environment turns them into.
Now, we , no matter who we are , doctors, soldiers, engineers, businessmen, lawyers, workers, craftsmen , artists and a multitude of other things we choose to do in our lives, we choose to do better and better during the span of our lives, we want to get get better at our profession, our homes, our families, we want to be a better son, a better daughter, a better father, a better mother, we want to be better friends, better lovers, we want to get better achievements , better posts , better pay, better lifestyle, better knowledge, better respect, better love, whatever counts for a person in life, we want it to grow as we live on, even a person who says is satisfied with what he has, wants more satisfaction when life throws a growing opportunity at him, point being, we want to get more of what matters in our lives, and what is all of the above if not the energy that fuels us, the energy that runs this world, even when we are bad, we want to get more of the bad we do, We are born , we acquire or loose the energy we are born with, paving the way for our future existence and then we die, this is what i believe is our existence at a very basic level. This is what i believe is our purpose at a basic level.
The Cloud Atlas, reinforces this in the character of the protagonist who starts with an existence of sheer evil and by the choices he makes in the many lives he crosses, progressively becomes a being of good and greatness, who starts in a life of misery, ends with a life of satisfaction and family, of happiness.
The law of attraction plays a large role in our lives, also a part of this book, it dictates that at any point of time in our lives we posses an amount of negative or positive energy in our lives, and we attract people of equivalent amount of energy of that nature. This happens without regards to whether we like it or not, social standards do not play much of a role and wealth is of no value, The amount of good in us attracts good and the amount of bad attracts likewise. this cumulatively turns us more of what we are good or bad, often have our parents told us to hang out with the right kind (or at least who they think are the right kind) , often we have put up with people we absolutely hate, , and we have heard proverbs or good begetting good and bad begetting bad. These things are directly inline with the law of attraction, and this law plays a huge part in the purpose of existence. It helps in both acquiring and loosing the energy we have in us.
“Our lives are not our own. We are bound to others, past and present,” and the others are met in life by the law were we will attract people possessing the same kind of energy as we do, and we get inspired, motivated or moved by them, this triggers the further change in us, knowingly or unknowingly, this is why our lives seems not to be of our own.
I don’t know what is the purpose of life, i might find the answer one day, but for now i am looking at the answer to what is my purpose in my life, the purpose for which god created me, to enhance what is around me, and more importantly, to enhance what is within me. As the proverb goes, “What man is a man who doesn’t make his world better…”
